Moments of reflection, Old Settlers'
Days is a trip back into time that comemorates the
life-style and the people who were the earliest residents
and first builders of Salem.
Held in late September every year,
thousands of visitors come to Salem to see blacksmiths
at work,
quilting, wood-carving and all kinds of crafts, pony
soldiers and their encampments, fiddlers, and
an assortment of reenactments reminiscent of how
life
in Salem's early days was.

Dozens of booths line the streets of
downtown Salem all the way out to The Stevens Museum,
part of the John Hay Center,
the historical hub of, and the home for the Washington
County Historical Society. There are
plenty of amusements for the youngsters too and when
everyone has seen enough, no one goes away hungry.
Endless contemporary and old style cooking choices
add a nice and quiet ending to the festive occasion.
