SALEM MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

Service, Adventure, Recreation, Tourism: the Heart of the Salem Municipal Airport

With the recent news that Clark County Airport (identifier: JVY) has increased their hangar rental fee to $105.00/month, we feel that Salem is a bargain waiting to be discovered. A 30-minute drive to Salem affords aircraft owners a potential savings of several dollars over the course of a year!

  • Old Hanger: Has has a gravel floor, no ceiling, and is closer to the ramp area than the newer hangar -- Rent: $40.00/month
  • New Hanger: Hhas concrete pads, ceiling (prevents dust, particles, and debris from the rafters falling on the aircraft) and affords a bit more room,. Rent: $50/month

The Salem Municipal Airport is one of the most exciting and important factors in the City's long-range plans for economic growth and development in the coming decades. Thanks to an energetic Aviation Board, now with several newly appointed members, and a firm commitment by the City of Salem, the Airport has embarked on a dynamic 9-Phase Redevelopment and Renovation Plan that will receive Federal matching funds to support and complete the project.

Central to this plan is to increase the current runway length of 2,738 to 4,000 feet, thereby enabling access by light to medium size corporate aircraft. Not only will this access directly impact Salem's economic growth by facilitating corporate and industrial relocation to the area, it will also make it possible for the City to take advantage of existing airport overcrowding in the Metropolitan Louisville (KY) area by providing new services and creating new opportunities for growth.

Tourism will also see a gain, especially in venues such as the Salem Speedway, that already attract a multi-state audience of drivers and fans.
