QUESTION: What are your operating hours?
ANSWER: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This includes all holidays and emergency incidents. Our headquarters is staffed 24 -7 also.

QUESTION: How do I contact an animal control person?

ANSWER: Through our agency. If you have an animal control issue please contact us and we will advise the animal control officer.

QUESTION: What hours are the Animal Control Shelter open?

ANSWER: Monday through Friday 4P.M. - 6P.M.

QUESTION: If I receive a traffic ticket, who do I contact?

ANSWER: Contact the Traffic Court Division at (812) 883-1634. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 9A.M. - 4P.M.

QUESTION: If I want to fish from a boat at Lake Salinda or Lake John Hay what do I need?

ANSWER: A valid Indiana fishing license and a City Lake Permit. The lake permit can be purchased at the City Clerks office Monday through Friday from 8 A.M. - 4P.M.. All other hours the permit can be purchase at the front lobby of the police department. The cost for a one day permit is $2.00. The cost for a one year permit is $10.00. The City of Salem does not sell Indiana fishing licenses.

QUESTION: What is the Indiana law concerning seat belts?

ANSWER: Indiana has a standard or primary seat belt law. You can be stopped and ticketed for failing to wear your seat belt.

QUESTION: What is the Indiana law concerning child restraints?

ANSWER: Any child up to and including children seven years of age must be properly fastened and restrained, according to the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions, by a child restraint system. All youths eight years old until they reach their 16th birthday must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or safety belt in all vehicles, in all seating positions, including vehicles with pickup truck plates. It is strongly reccomended all children be placed in the rear seat of the vehicle where it is safest. This law takes effect on July 1, 2005.

QUESTION: Does Indiana require motorcycle riders to use a helmet?

ANSWER: Persons under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet and eye protection. Persons operating a motorcycle with a motorcycle learners permit, regardless of age, are also required to wear a helmet. All other adult motorcycle operators with a valid motorcycle endorsement are not required to wear a helmet. (I.C. 9-21-10-9)**

ANSWER: Indiana honors any right to carry permits issued by any other state.

QUESTION: What is the Indiana law concerning tinted windows?

ANSWER: No vehicle may be operated in which a windshield, side wing, side window, which is part of the front door, or rear back window has been covered or treated with sunscreening material or tinting that would prevent the occupants of the vehicle from being easily recognized or identified through the window from the outside of a vehicle. ANSWER: Tire chains are legal when required for safety reasons. Studded tires are permitted from October 1st through May 1st. (I.C. 9-19-18-3)**

ANSWER: A two or three wheeled vehicle which has:
* an engine rating of not more that two horsepower
* a cylinder capacity not exceeding fifty cubic centimeters;
* an automatic transmission; and
* a maximum designed speed of not more that 25 miles per hour on a flat surface
