Salem, Indiana (July 14, 2021) - The City of Salem has lifted its boil water advisory at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. This precautionary measure was put in place to err on the side safety.

Our water plant had an adverse issue over the weekend that was fixed by the crew and engineers on site. This was an internal issue with a chlorine bleach pump feed and was discovered and addressed by Saturday evening.

We did not lose disinfection and only suffered from low volume. Testing water samples after the repair to ensure safety was the most time consuming, resulting in the extended advisory. All testing was completed today, and the advisory was then cancelled.

The City of Salem certainly thanks our customers for understanding and being patient while we ensured a safe water supply.

We will be working on implementing an automated notification system in the future and will make that announcement at a later date.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding during the advisory period.

As always, please feel free to contact me or the City of Salem Water Department with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Justin Green
Mayor
